# Washington AG Reports Record Public Records Requests in 2025
Washington Attorney General Nick Brown marked Sunshine Week by announcing record transparency metrics for his office. The Attorney General's Office processed 1,202 public records requests in 2025, a 44% increase from 2020 and 106% increase from 2015. The office has completed 84% of requests and provided 922,084 pages of records—more than double the 449,943 pages provided in 2020.
The office denied only nine of the 1,202 requests received, with denials typically involving juvenile records protected by law. The median processing time for requests was 55 days. Some requests require extensive searching across the nearly 2,000-person agency and redaction of protected information such as personal identifiers in medical records.
To improve efficiency, the Attorney General's Office hired its first Chief Transparency Counsel in November and created a Public Records and Open Government Unit. The office acknowledged room for improvement as it works to streamline processes and increase performance across the organization.
